Vancouver Island University’s (VIU’s) Theatre Department presents A Good Person by Ross Desprez, which is a comedic adaptation of Brecht’s The Good Women of Szechwan.
In A Good Person, God comes to Earth in search of one good person and encounters Chantelle, a destitute teenaged sex worker who offers him a bed for the night. Her good deed is rewarded when a client bequeaths her enough money to buy The Everyman Tavern. She is soon overwhelmed by creditors, people seeking assistance and others willing to take advantage of her good nature. Out of desperation she invents an alter ego, a business savvy cousin called Chandler, to deal with the tough side of the business. Chantelle struggles to maintain her moral standards while Chandler navigates in a corrupt society. Together they encounter swindlers, lovers, the media and the law as they attempt to succeed in a world that isn’t fair.
“A Good Person is a hysterical adaptation that will have everyone laughing,” said Leon Potter, a VIU Theatre Professor.
The play runs on October 27, 28 and 29 and November 3, 4 and 5 at 7:30 pm. There is a matinee on November 3 at 10 am. Tickets are $10 and are available on EventBrite.
