This is our last media highlights email of 2022. Vancouver Island University will be closed for winter break from Friday, December 23, 2022, to Monday, January 2, 2023, reopening on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. All the best for a relaxing, restful holiday season to you all.

Baking instructor Ken Harper has spent a great deal of time teaching students how to make the perfect shortbread and fruit cake. He's happy to share tips and advice for the at-home baker, as well as a little history of these two holiday favourites. 

Proper care of your Christmas plants

Every year, students at VIU's G.R. Paine Horticultural Training Centre grow hundreds of poinsettias for sale in the community. Christine Quist, Acting Chair of VIU's Horticulture program, is ready to share some tips on care of poinsettias and Christmas cacti.
